Paris 2024 athletics: Men’s and women’s 4x100m relay finals preview, schedule and how to watch live
The United States will go for double gold in the 4x100m relay finals on Friday (9 August) after both teams went quickest in Thursday’s heats at Paris 2024.
The American men’s team are looking to make amends for their Tokyo 2020 disappointment. Three years ago, the USA failed to make the final of the men’s 4x100m, finishing sixth in their heat to miss out.
They have since put that right on the World Championships stage, winning gold last year in Budapest, with Noah Lyles part of that victorious quartet and out for another Paris 2024 gold this time around.
On Thursday, the U.S. men’s team reached the 4x100m relay final – racing without Lyles as he was going in the 200m final in the evening – with their 37.47 the fastest time in the heats.
Reigning Olympic champions Italy scraped through when finishing fifth in their heat on Thursday, while South Africa and Great Britain both impressed with the second and third fastest times respectively.
Meanwhile, the women’s 4x100m relay final on Friday could be the USA’s to lose with Sha'Carri Richardson, the 100m silver medallist, and the new 200m champion Gabrielle Thomas in the team.
In the heats, Thomas and Richardson guided the U.S home in a time of 41.94, with reigning Olympic and world bronze medallists Great Britain posting the second fastest time at 42.03.
Germany, hosts France and Jamaica could also challenge for the podium places.
